Lumiere

Cufflinks of Ottoman illumination, or tezhip, across silver surface.

The first examples of Ottoman illumination (Tezhip) art appeared in 9th century Uyghur manuscripts and murals. Over the centuries the artform has evolved and developed in so many ways, from mosques to government offices, and from palaces to decorative tombstones. By the 16th century, it was the peak of Turkish artistry. Here, this tezhip transforms Sevan Bıçakçı's cufflinks into the heavenly flower gardens of palaces of old.
